Do you know that as an employee in Ontario, you are required to take the Ministry of Labour Health and Safety Awareness Training?

The Ministry of Labour requires all organizations to ensure that their employees and supervisors/managers receive Health and Safety Awareness training. Below is a brief explanation of the training and a link to the online course.
The training focuses on:
· The duties and rights of workers under the Occupational Health & Safety Act
· The duties of employers and supervisors under the Act
· The role of the Joint Health and Safety Committee
· The role of the Ministry of Labour and WSIB with respect to occupational health and safety
· Workplace hazards and occupational illness
The Ministry of Labour has provided online modules which can be accessed from any computer. The module takes about 45-60 minutes. The online module is unable to keep track of your progress and must be completed in one session (i.e., you cannot do part of it and then do the rest later). There are two pieces of training offered, one for supervisors and one for employees.
SUPERVISORS/MANAGERS should go here:
The training itself is accessed by clicking on ‘Access the eLearning module’ for both of the links. There are available employee and supervisor workbooks that you can purchase if you are unable to complete the training online.
If you plan to use the online module, please make sure to enable the sounds on your computer and that you can allocate the necessary time to complete the module. Please note that there is a test at the end. You will receive a Proof of Completion Certificate upon completion of the training. The Ministry of Labour will not store your certificate or keep a record of training for you, so I suggest that you save and/or print the certificate before exiting the module. I think most companies are required to keep a copy of these for their employees.
Did your company inform you about this mandatory training? Have you taken this training, and what are your takeaways from this course? Let me know by writing your comments below. Also, don't forget to subscribe to get the latest scoop from this blog or share if you think that this blog is helpful.
