Healthy Working Environment
We usually work from 8 am to 5 pm. That is squandering about half of our waking hours at our job. While certain occupations like production, construction or labor-intensive works have very obvious risks, we cannot assume that working in an office environment is a safer option or at least a healthier one. Many occupations bring about a lot of anxiety, stress, sedentary behavior, and unhealthy habits which can take their toll on us both physically and mentally. I guess that's part of the price that is included in our bi-weekly paycheques!
A lot of offices nowadays provide spaces where their employees can relax, unwind and just take the stress out of work. Have you seen Google’s offices? They have the most AMAZING office setup where people can enjoy and work (or enjoy the work!).

Or this office in Japan that has an indoor garden and grows organic food in the workplace which you can actually harvest and eat for lunch?
But more than the office appearance, it is actually what you do in your office that matters. I have compiled suggestions below which may help you stay healthy while working:
- Avoid stress. Stress can a take a toll on your overall health and well-being. Take time for yourself. Learn new techniques to relax. Get support if needed.
- Remind your self not to sit a lot. Walk around the office and keep those bloods flowing. Seating for 8 hours straight can actually restrict blood-flow to some parts of your body. Feel free walk around (but not all the time)!
- Take the stairs. If your office is located in the first or second floor only, or if you're visiting a department on the next level consider taking the stairs. It's a really good exercise.
- Take your eyes off the computer screen every 1 hour. Enjoy the beauty of your office surrounding or your colleague. Don't strain your eyes too much.
- Do stretching or simple desk exercises. A lot of these really simple exercises can be found online. Here is a sample https://greatist.com/fitness/deskercise-33-ways-exercise-work
